Viharnra Sien Anek Kusala Sala (House of Gods) is a Chinese Temple located in the South of Pattaya about 20 kilometers from the city proper. It is situated in about 3 acres of land not far from the Wat Yansangwararam Temple near a beautiful lake.
This temple was built in 1987 for the celebration of the King of Thailand’s 60th birthday, his majesty, King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The purpose of the temple is to be a merit making place for the general public.
Maitreya (Pudai in Chinese) was a Coming Buddha. His name means "Hemp Sack". His habit was wondering through the town with a beggar's sack on his back. That's where he gets his name. Pudai also known as the "Humpback Monk" was believed to be able to predict the weather. His life was filled with miraculous events. He went to the countryside spreading cheer and befriending childrens. At his death, he revealed himself to be an incarnation of Maitreya, the future of Buddha. He was also known as the "Laughing Buddha". He has a fat belly and a wide grin. He has a sack on one hand and holds a rosary on the other hand. People worship him for good luck and wealth. This statue of Maitreya is just one of the many statues you can see in outside the museum of Viharnra Sien.
This temple has three stories with pavilions. It's museum has a collection of unique historical statues.
These are some of the few images I took inside the museum.
So if you like history or if you just wanted to see a beautiful scenery, this place is worth to pay a visit.
Important Note: Viharnra Sien is open daily from 8 am until 5 pm. Admission fee is only 50 baht per person. Dressing up appropriately is encouraged. The best way to get there is to hire a taxi. Hiring a songthaew is also a good idea and it's cheaper. It's the same thing hiring a taxi or a private car, just minus the air con :).
